Be A Go-Getter

Lately, I have been seeing a lot of my peers venturing out and starting new businesses and projects. This made me want to talk about different things that come with that. Since I’ve been building my resume, I've learned a really important lesson; everybody is not out here to help you. Even though you might reach out to higher people, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re willing to give you a helping hand. However, it was my responsibility to take that as an opportunity to be a go-getter for myself. Never depend on another person for your success. Also, another important thing is to remember not to let someone’s let down get you upset or discouraged about your goals. Take it as a lesson. And to my black readers, DO NOT think that just because you reached out to another black person that it’s your way in the door. That was something I learned fast! There have been people that I’ve reached out to and never got a response. I’ve been in situations where people have promised me opportunities that I have yet to see. The key is I never sat around and waited on them. I had to go and look for my next career move. I know the goals that I have and the things that I want to accomplish in my life! I have control over that and no one else. Beyonce once said “Power is not given to you. You have to take it.” You have to take initiative and get things done on your own because waiting on someone can easily turn into it never happening. Look at some of your favorite icons and what they are known for. I guarantee you if you look at their journey, they have had let downs, but to get to where they are now, they took it upon themselves to get back on their feet to go another route. This whole “taking control” is fairly new to me and there are things I’m still learning. The good thing about me is that I don’t let certain situations get me down. I’m good at brushing things off and figuring it out for myself. I just wanted to start the week off with a little motivation for all my people starting new ventures.
